Super Mario Bros. Super Show

August 30, 2005 by Dave Ross

I have some serious downloading to do tonight.

First off, Joystiq reports that Yahooligans! (Yahoo!'s site for kids) has posted episodes of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. In case you don't remember it, this show was on in the early 90s and featured cartoons with characters from the Super Mario games. On Friday afternoons, though, they showed a Legend of Zelda cartoon (I don't know what made Friday so special). But what really made the show memorable were the "host segments" starring wrestler Capt. Lou Albano and some other guy dressed as Mario & Luigi doing various skits as two Brooklyn plumbers. It's classic cheese if you're into that sort of thing.

Also, I watched the first episode of Star Trek: The New Voyages last night. It was actually pretty good for a fan production. Basically, it follows the Enterprise crew on year four of their "five year mission". The actors have captured the nuances of the original cast's performances, and try to keep the tongue-in-cheek parts to a minimum (although the shuttlecraft in a suburban garage was cute).

I think I'm going to puke.

Don't ever plan a convention. Run far, far away.

Brain dump

Just a few things that have been on my mind…

  • I saw "Apple polish" at Fry's this weekend. It's actually a spray-on polish to keep your Apple computer all nice & shiny. I'm torn between wanting to laugh and nominating it for "best computing product of 2005". I mean, if I spent a bunch of money on an iBook, I'd want it to look better than my Dell does.
  • I'm so bored. I finished up my bug hunting this morning, and now I have three projects on my plate that are all waiting for more info. Is it time to go home yet? If I stick around this afternoon, can I get credit to use when I have to go to work but I want to stay home?
  • This may be my last year running the Commodore Expo. These things are getting to be bigger & bigger deals, and it's too much for one person. Of course, I say that every year, don't I?
