Happy Halloween

October 31, 2005 by Dave Ross

Happy Halloween from your friendly neighborhood gothic hep cat at csixty4.com!

I ripped my LCD monitor apart this afternoon. It's lying in pieces all over the kitchen, but I laid things out so it would be easy to put it back together.

I'm not going to bother.

My beautiful 17" flat panel that I got for a steal from Microcenter died of a overheated transistor after about a year of service. At least, I'm assuming it was a transistor. It was some surface-mounted chip on the power/interver board, and it got hot enough to make the other side of the circuit board turn brown. The clear plastic put in place to protect curious nuts like me from getting shocked had melted around it, and that's probably what sealed its fate. Of course, I can't find a replacement for just this board, and the monitor's manufacturer is MIA.

I'm going to try to recycle what I can of the monitor, and pitch the rest. The LCD panel works fine, so that's going on eBay to see if I can make a buck or two off it.

What a goddam waste.
