The floodgates are open! After this weekend, it became clear that we’d be well off having a region 2 DVD player. So, I took back the external DVD drive I brought to work and hooked it up to our Mac Mini. The internal drive is set for region 1, and now the external can play all those wonderful BBC DVDs we can’t get in the US…
…like the 1996 Doctor Who movie. That’s kind of amusing, since Fox made the movie for both US and UK audiences. But, I guess there are rights issues. Isn’t that always the case? I found out this week that one of the episodes on the US release of the Doctor Who Series 3 DVD set wont have the commentary the cast recorded for the DVD release. They’re using the podcast commentary because the cast started singing various songs and there wasn’t time to clear them. Looks like I’m asking for the UK verison for my birthday.
(Yes, it’s Doctor Who week here at csixty4.com)
Also, I’d like to take a moment to plug Alien Entertainment (located here in Lombard) for stocking so much Doctor Who stuff, including region 2 discs. It’s just too damn expensive to order stuff from overseas & have it shipped here. They’re a little too convenient, though, when I find myself needing a Doctor Who or Star Trek fix on the way home.
Thanks to Jay & Wendy for the kind words the other day. I’m feeling a lot better.
It seems one of my clients from work has stumbled across this site (not like I go to any great lengths to hide it). Hi Jim!
I thought I was going to be more relaxed after a four-day weekend, but it was actually pretty busy. Thursday, of course, we had dinner with my family…at noon. I’m not quite sure how that works, but the food was great. My sister-in-law packed up some leftover turkey for our cats, and they had their own little Thanksgiving feast mixed in with turkey flavored food.
It completely slipped my mind that last weekend was Chicago TARDIS, one of the big Doctor Who conventions on this side of the “pond”. We decided to go on Friday and were there until almost midnight. Amy posted about some of the things we saw and did there if anyone’s interested.
Saturday was all about yard work. We cleared up the leaves in the lawn a few weeks ago, but then the rest fell all at once. We got about 10 bags from the front & back, and I still need to get up on a ladder this weekend and empty out the gutters for the last time this year.
Sunday, I stopped at the shelter to see Shine & friends, then got a haircut, bought OS X Leopard for my Mac Mini, and came home to install it. That has got to be the most painless operating system upgrade in history. Everything was point & click — I only needed the keyboard twice to enter the admin password.
I came into work Monday morning to find another DDOS attack. Woo.
Thinking out loud after the break. It’s stuff of a personal nature.
